SPORTS SCHOOL. LSU athletes Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, Josh Williams, Aneesah Morrow, Jay Mendell and Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant all received awards in their sports this week.
The Associated Press released its midseason All-American teams yesterday. Malik Nabers was named to the first-team and leads the nation in receiving yards with 860 on 52 receptions. Jayden Daniels to the second-team and leads the nation in total offense (401.3), pass efficiency (197.7), and rushing yards by a quarterback (515). Josh Williams named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, which focuses on a player’s leadership on and off the field.He was nominated with guys like Sam Hartman, Caleb Williams & Jordan Travis. The O-line was named to the midseason honor roll by the Joe Moore Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding offensive line in college football. They’re joined by five other teams from the SEC in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee. LSU is No.2 in total offense (550.4), first downs (27.7), and 3rd-down conversions (57.5 pct.) No. 3 in scoring (45.3), No. 4 pass efficiency (188.0 rating), No. 7 in passing (337.7), and No. 10 in rushing (214.6).
Aneesah Morrow was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watchlist! The award recognizes the best small forward in the country. She’s recorded 53 double-doubles in 66 career games. She was joined by Angel Reese as the only two players to rank inside the top-10 nationally in both scoring and rebounding.
Men’s golfer Jay Mendell earned his second SEC Freshman of the Week award this season after earning his career highest finish of his young career
And Women’s diver Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant was named SEC Female Diver of the Week for the second week in-a-row. She finished first in both springboard events against Arkansas last week.
