What’s up, y’all! Abby Alonzo checking in to let y’all know that we’re changing the game with the way we interview athletes. Formal, sit-down interviews are OUT and interactive (slightly embarrassing), chit-chats are IN!
Last week, I got a sick opportunity to shoot around with LSU Women’s Basketball guard Aneesah Morrow while chopping it up about her basketball career, how she landed at LSU and some of the things that make her stand out from everyone else.
If you haven’t already gotten a chance to watch the interview, you should definitely go watch it. Now, fair warning, I never claimed to be great at basketball. It’s been a couple years since I’ve picked one up, and it’s pretty obvious throughout the entire segment. BUT - gots to see it through ma boy!
On a serious note, Aneesah was one of the most confident yet humble athletes I’ve had the opportunity to work with. She spoke with so much conviction, and she has no doubt about who she is and what she’s capable of. Throughout the interview, you get a really good feel for where that grit comes from.
And talk about a woman who knows what she wants… Aneesah has her eyes on MULTIPLE records, and it didn’t take much convincing for me to believe that she will, in fact, own those records before her time at LSU is over.
Everytime I interview an athlete, I walk away with some sort of lesson or new perspective. And I can absolutely say I left this one refreshed and ready to get to work. Her grit and confidence had a lasting mark on me, and young women everywhere should take notes from Morrow on how to stand firmly in who they are and what they bring to the table.
If you’ve followed LSU Women’s Basketball even just a little bit this season, then chances are you’re familiar with Morrow and what she brings to this team. But if you wanna know more about the “double-double” machine (yes, she did call herself a “double-double machine” in a presser last week), you know where to find it.
